Welcome to Outlaw Nation!
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Former Mountain View soccer star Mike Chesler understands his dream of one day being a professional soccer player may not come true.
But he's going to do everything in his power to make it a reality.
That's why he traveled across the country this summer from his university in North Carolina — High Point, where he's starred at goalkeeper the past two seasons — to Utah to play for the Ogden Outlaws of the Premier Development League.
You see, when you're an up-and-coming soccer player like Chesler, getting high-quality minutes on the pitch against high-level competition during the summer months is vital, and that's precisely the opportunity the Outlaws afford their players — to get quality minutes against quality opposition.
"It's all about getting minutes," says Chesler, who played for a PDL team in the south last year but came back to play for the Outlaws this year in part because he could also train with Real Salt Lake "every once in a while."

LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The 2010 season came to an end with a thud for the Outlaws.
Surrendering three second-half goals, Ogden let a 2-1 lead slip away and fell 4-2 to the Southern California Seahorses late Saturday night at Biola University.
The Outlaws finished their campaign at 2-11-3, being outscored 20-7 on a season-ending five-match winless streak after stunning division champion Ventura County on July 8.

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- There was no shortage of motivation for the Outlaws on Saturday evening.
Playing their arch-rivals in front the biggest crowd of the season with a chance to escape the divisional cellar, Ogden did everything right for 60 minutes.
The final half-hour, however, was an absolute disaster for the home side.
In the span of just 12 minutes, the Outlaws saw a 1-0 lead turn into a two-goal deficit and Ogden couldn't recover as Brigham Young University rolled out of Bonneville High School with a 3-1 result.
"When we decide to play, we can play some pretty good soccer," Ogden coach Rob Karas said. "We can be fun to watch when we play simple and ping the ball around.
Add a commentTonight the Ogden Outlaws will host the BYU Cougars in their final home match of the 2010 season. In their previous meeting in Provo two
weeks ago, BYU came aw
ay with a 3-1 win over the Outlaws. Ogden hasn't had much luck at home against the Cougars, never winning a match on their home turf. However, they have always been hard fought battles with the result often in doubt until the final whistle.
BYU will be coming off a 2-1 loss against the Fresno Fuego last night in a very hotly contested battle which saw Fresno score the winning goal from the spot in the 90th minute. They will be looking to end their season with a win against Ogden.
The Outlaws sit only two points behind the Cougars, so a win tonight will vault Ogden past BYU and leave them at the bottom of the Southwest Division standings. Who said there is nothing to play for?
Ogden will need to tighten up their back line if they would like to keep BYU out of their net. The Outlaws have allowed a division most 39 goals against, but most of those have been on the road. Unfortunately, they will be without their captain and starting left back, Ethan Summers, who picked up a red card in their match against Fresno on Thursday night. Ogden showed against Fresno that they can overcome adversity and get postive results, playing a man-down for 75-minutes and nearly pulling off a win. But a late Fuego equalizer in stoppage time stole two points from the Outlaws.
Ogden will be ready and would like to get a little revenge against BYU. That factor alone is enough to fuel the Outlaws.
This is one match you will not want to miss! So, bring the family and come support the Outlaws and cheer them on to victory! Kick-off will be at 6:00 PM at Bonneville High School. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids.
Add a commentA rough and disappointing 2010 season is wrapping up for the Ogden Outlaws. This week the Outlaws will host their final home matches of the season, the Fresno Fuego on Thursday and the BYU Cougars on Saturday.
The Outlaws first met the Fuego on their opening road trip and were humbled with a 4-0 loss. They will no doubt like to exact some revenge on the side from Fresno. Fresno is sitting in fourth place in the Southwest Division with a record of 6-4-3 and are on a 7-game unbeaten streak. They are looking to make a push to the playoffs. However, as Ogden showed last week with their 2-1 victory over Ventura County Fusion, they can beat anyone on any given night. But, they will need to put a full 90-minutes together in order to accomplish the task.
On Saturday night, Ogden will host the BYU Cougars in their final home match of the season. It will have been two weeks since the Outlaws lost a 3-1 decision at South Field in Provo. With a playoff spot well out of reach, Ogden would like to punish the Cougars and catch them in the divisional standings. BYU sits just three points ahead of the Outlaws. Two wins this week will guarantee the Outlaws will not finish alone at the bottom of the standings.
Both matches kick-off at 6:00 PM at Bonneville High School.

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- It was an evening the Outlaws would like to forget.
Just two days after their biggest win of the season, Ogden suffered an embarrassing setback to Hollywood United, falling 6-2 to the Hitmen on Saturday at Bonneville High School.
"We have some injuries that kind of added up," Ogden coach Rob Karas said.
"I thought we created some good chances, but we kind had a letdown after the big win earlier in the week.
"Giving up a goal in the first 39 seconds was hard; we kind of lost focus for a while."
Hollywood United, one of the Premier Development League's top teams, scored just 39 seconds into the match and added another in the 23rd minute to take a 2-0 lead at halftime...
